CITY
IS ALIVE

evocity.org is not a concept render. It is a working prototype of a post-petrol metropolis: 42 000 residents, 0 private gasoline cars, 312 km of bike highways, solar roofs on 94% of buildings and parks where parking lots used to be.

01 / ABOUT

We rebuilt the city around people, not cars.

See districts
EvoCity smart district with solar facades

EvoCity started in 2016 as an answer to a simple question: what if a city was designed like an electric vehicle — efficient, silent, software-defined and beautiful?

Today evocity.org documents and connects five living districts, three research labs and a community of engineers, architects, drivers and gardeners. We test everything in the open: bidirectional charging, car-free streets, rain gardens, delivery robots, rooftop greenhouses. What works stays. What fails becomes an article in our journal.

  • ✓ About our mission: prove that electric urbanism is cheaper, quieter and happier than traffic urbanism.
  • ✓ About our rules: no combustion engines inside the ring, no billboards, no food deserts, no dark alleys.
  • ✓ About our economy: energy is produced locally — 68% rooftops + wind ring + second-life batteries.
  • ✓ About our people: 42k residents, 118 nationalities, 1 shared app for mobility, energy and voting.

◈

Software-defined streets

Lanes change direction by demand. Curbs become terraces on weekends. Traffic lights talk to shuttles 10x per second.

◎

Energy as commons

Every building is a power plant. Neighbors trade solar kWh peer-to-peer. Blackouts: zero since 2021.

⬢

Nature is infrastructure

38% of surface is green-blue: rain parks, pollinator corridors, 12 000 trees with sensors and names.

02 / DISTRICTS

Five neighborhoods, five experiments.

Volt Harbour district

1. Volt Harbour — the port without smoke

Former container terminal turned e-marina + campus. Ferries, cargo e-bikes and student housing. Night market runs on harbour batteries.

Neon Grid district at night

2. Neon Grid — living lab

400 sensors per block. Facades are displays, roofs are farms. Home to EvoTech University and 24h maker garages.

Moss Park green district

3. Moss Park — forest city

Car-free, kids-free-to-roam. Wooden towers, mushroom insulation, kindergartens in greenhouses. Quietest zip code: 28 dB.

4. Sun Loop — circular suburb

Single-family retrofits with V2H. Every home sells power back on Sundays. Streets are shared: play, charge, chat.

5. Depot Yard — makers & movers

Old bus depot = 180 workshops. Retro-fitted EVs, cargo trikes, battery repair cafés. Nothing thrown away.

Want to move here?

Waiting list is open twice a year. Priority for teachers, nurses, engineers and gardeners.

03 / MOBILITY

No car? No problem. Everything glides.

Private gasoline cars are banned inside the ring. Instead you get a single pass: e-shuttles, metro, e-bikes, river trams and 40 shared EV models.

  • 🚏 Loop shuttles every 4 min — autonomous, free, with bike racks and dog seats.
  • 🚲 312 km bike highways — heated in winter, lit by motion, priority over cars everywhere.
  • 🔌 1 840 chargers — curbside, lamppost, wireless at taxi ranks. 150 kW median.
  • 📦 Silent logistics — night delivery by e-vans + day by cargo bikes. No diesel rumble.

04 / SUSTAINABILITY

A city that exhales oxygen.

☀

Solar everywhere

94% roofs + 12 km solar noise barriers. 68% of annual kWh made inside city borders.

💧

Sponge streets

Rain gardens absorb 90% storms. No floods since 2020. Kids sail paper boats in bioswales.

🥬

Food 800m away

Vertical farms + rooftop greenhouses cover 31% fresh veg. Market halls in every district.

Green park replacing parking in EvoCity

We replaced 11 000 parking spots with 11 parks.

Each ex-parking now has a name, a gardener and a pizza oven. Crime -41%, asthma -52%, neighbours who know each other +300%. Coincidence? We don't think so.

07 / FAQ

Ask a resident.

Can I own a car in EvoCity?

Yes — if it's electric and shared 30% of time. Private petrol cars park outside the ring in the Forest Hub and you shuttle in. Most residents sold their car within 6 months and never looked back.

How much does it cost to live here?

Rents are capped + energy bills average €38/mo thanks to rooftop solar. Mobility pass is €49/mo all-inclusive. Groceries from vertical farms are 15% cheaper than city average.

What happens when sun doesn't shine?

Wind ring + 40 MWh of second-life bus batteries + V2G from 6 000 parked EVs. We survived 9 cloudy days in 2023 without importing a kWh.

Can I visit as tourist?

Yes! E-bike tours daily, silent river trams hourly. Stay in Depot Yard hostel made of containers. Book via contact form below.
